The History of Shearer-Richardson

The vision for Shearer Richardson has changed over the years but the one constant is the community support for this facility. The original facility was built in the ’50s as a 10-bed hospital, with full hospital services including an emergency room, lab services, radiology, labor, and delivery, etc.

We actually have individuals working here that were born here when it was still a hospital.

The hospital added a 40-bed nursing home in 1963. Sometime in 2003, a decision was made to close the hospital but leave the nursing home intact, which had expanded its capacity from a 40-bed facility to a 73-bed facility.
